When the pterosaurs attack the main boardwalk in Jurassic World, while crowds panic and run for shelter, one tourist has his priorities straight: securing two freshly poured margaritas without spilling a single drop. That brief cameo turned into one of the most memorable background moments in modern creature features, and it makes for an exceptionally fun, low-stress costume to put together.
The entire outfit relies on standard resort wear paired with specific park-branded gear. Because the clothing itself is relaxed summer attire, the silhouette hinges entirely on the color choices and the two drinks carried in hand.
The Resort Wear Base
The foundation is straightforward warm-weather tourist gear: a sunset red short-sleeve button-down shirt paired with standard flat-front khaki shorts. You want the shirt to fit comfortably loose rather than tailored, matching the relaxed vibe of someone having an afternoon drink on a tropical island. Leaving the top few buttons undone fits the scene accurately.
For the shorts, standard cotton or chino khaki shorts hitting just above the knee provide the right neutral base. Plain brown or black thong sandals keep the footwear as casual as possible, consistent with poolside island walking.
Park Accessories and Headwear
Two accessories anchor the outfit to the fictional theme park: the cap and the shades. A dark Jurassic World trucker cap with a mesh back sits low on the brow, looking like a souvenir bought earlier that morning at the park gift shop.
Pair the cap with classic gold-frame aviator sunglasses with tinted lenses. The wire frames give that weathered, practical sun protection look that contrasts nicely with the absurd chaos happening around the character.
The Signature Drinks
The costume completely falls apart without the margaritas. In the scene, the character carries two broad-rimmed glasses filled with frozen green cocktail, complete with crushed ice, lime wedges, and coarse salt along the rim.
Real glassware and liquid are impractical and hazardous on a convention floor or at a party. Using lightweight acrylic margarita glasses filled with faux green resin or clear craft gel mixed with light green tint gives the appearance of a slush drink without any spill risk. Mod Podge or clear craft glue dabbed along the rim holds white craft sand or coarse faux salt securely in place.
For the full effect, carry one glass in each hand with your elbows slightly bent and forearms parallel to the ground, holding them level as if rushing away from danger.
The Flying Dinosaur Element
Adding a small plastic pterodactyl toy immediately establishes the context for why you are clutching your drinks in a panic. A nine-inch toy pterosaur can be mounted directly to the shoulder of your shirt using safety pins hidden beneath the fabric, or clamped onto the brim of the trucker cap as though it is swooping down mid-attack.
Alternatively, tucking the dinosaur under one arm or letting it dangle from a small clear filament wire adds a humorous storytelling element that instantly clarifies the specific scene you are recreating.
