Alex Street Fighter Cosplay Costume Guide

Alex’s design from Street Fighter draws heavily from 1990s pro wrestling and gritty New York street fighting. His look relies on raw athleticism and utilitarian military-surplus garments rather than stylized martial arts uniforms. Recreating it centers on nailing a few distinct visual cues: long unkempt blonde hair pulled back under a red bandana, distinctive maroon facial markings, heavy olive cargos, and rugged combat boots.

Because the outfit is fundamentally simple, fit and silhouette carry most of the weight. A loose, ill-fitting pair of trousers or a flat, unstyled wig will immediately weaken the overall appearance. Getting the textures and proportions right transforms what could look like ordinary gym clothes into a faithful tribute to the classic Street Fighter III protagonist.

Face Markings and Bandana

The two horizontal marks across Alex’s cheeks are his most defining characteristic. These aren’t thin pencil lines or sharp tribal decals; they resemble dried, dark crimson war paint or healed scar tissue running horizontally below the eyes. Using a water-activated or cream-based maroon face paint gives you the rich, reddish-brown tone seen in the game sprites. Apply the paint with a flat synthetic brush or a makeup wedge, keeping the edges slightly softened rather than razor-sharp so they look weathered. Set the cream with a translucent powder or matching matte eyeshadow so sweat doesn’t smear the lines across your cheeks during a long day.

Directly above that, the red bandana headband secures the hair away from the face. Alex ties his bandana low across the forehead, right at or just above the brow line. A standard cotton bandana folded into a two-inch strip or a pre-stitched elastic red headband works well. If you fold your own, ironing the crease prevents the fabric from bunching up unevenly against the wig line.

Wig Styling

Alex sports long, dirty-blonde hair that spills out from under his bandana and hangs past his shoulders in choppy, separated clumps. Straight out of the package, a synthetic blonde wig usually sits too sleek and glossy. You’ll want to dampen the sheen with dry shampoo or baby powder before cutting into the fibers.

Trim the bangs and front sections so uneven locks frame your face without blocking the bandana knot in the back. Working a small dab of matte pomade or texturizing paste through the ends gives the strands that slightly greasy, unwashed brawler texture. When fitting the wig, secure it firmly with wig clips and bobby pins before tying the red headband; the tension of the knot can easily cause an unpinned wig cap to slide backward.

Trousers and Boots

The lower half of the costume consists of olive green cargo pants paired with sturdy brown combat boots. You want a pair of cargos made from sturdy twill or ripstop cotton with prominent side bellows pockets. Slim-cut modern cargo joggers won’t produce the right profile; standard straight-leg or relaxed utility pants provide the wider, heavier lower body line that matches Alex’s in-game sprite.

Tuck the trouser cuffs loosely into the tops of the brown combat boots. Instead of pulling the fabric tight against the shins, let the legs blouse out slightly over the boot collars. For boots, mid-calf lace-up tactical or surplus boots in a dark or reddish-brown leather complement the green fabric well. If the leather looks fresh out of the box, scuffing the toe caps lightly with a bit of dark shoe polish gives them an authentic, worn-in appearance.

Gloves and Hand Wraps

Green fingerless gloves cover Alex’s hands, leaving the knuckles exposed for grappling. Tactical or weightlifting gloves in olive drab work straight away, though simple ribbed knit fingerless gloves are an easy alternative. If your gloves feature modern rubber armor or large brand logos, you can use a seam ripper to take off the patches or brush on a layer of matte acrylic paint to dull down synthetic logos.

Depending on whether you’re recreating his classic Street Fighter III appearance or later iterations, you may also want to pair these with simple athletic wrist tape or wrap beneath the gloves to fill out the wrists and support the bare-forearm silhouette.
