Loona from Helluva Boss DIY Costume Guide

Loona’s design leans heavily into mid-2000s grunge and scene aesthetics, translated onto an animated hellhound. The outfit itself is straightforward streetwear—a cropped off-the-shoulder top, fitted black shorts, and heavy distressing—paired with straps, studs, and canine accessories.

Because the core garments are casual pieces, the visual success of this costume comes down to how the layers interact. The harness framing the neckline, the slouch of the warmers, and the specific sweep of the wig do most of the heavy lifting.

The Top and Harness Layering

The upper half of the outfit pairs an off-the-shoulder grey crop top with a strap harness that sits visible against your chest and shoulders. A Grey Off-the-Shoulder Crop Top provides the base neckline. Loona’s top features a notched, slightly frayed hemline and an open collar that lets the harness show through. You can cut small notches into the hem and collar of a cotton top using fabric shears to replicate the raw edges seen in the animation.

Under or over the top, the Pentagram Body Harness creates the star-patterned strap work centered on the chest. Adjust the harness sliders so the central ring sits flat against your sternum before putting on the top. If the straps shift during movement, a few small safety pins tacked to the inside seams of the shirt will keep the star centered without being visible from the front.

At the neck, add a Studded Choker Necklace. The choker should sit snugly at the mid-throat rather than loose at the collarbone, contrasting against the wider harness straps below it.

Shorts and Leg Warmers

Black Cotton Bike Shorts form the bottom base. Loona wears simple, high-rise black shorts that hit mid-thigh, keeping the lower half clean and functional.

Below the shorts, Dark Grey Thigh High Leg Warmers with Stirrup recreate the appearance of her dark fur and slouchy sock layers. Stirrup styles work well here because the under-foot strap prevents the knit fabric from riding up your calf as you walk. Pull them high onto the upper thigh, letting any excess material gather naturally around the knees and ankles.

On your arms, slide on a pair of Dark Grey Arm Warmers. These extend from the mid-forearm down past the wrists to cover the palms, leaving the fingers free for practicality throughout the day.

Footwear and Paw Details

Loona walks on digitigrade paws, which can be tricky to replicate without bulky foam builds. A practical compromise for walking around conventions is pairing Werewolf Shoe Covers over flat, comfortable sneakers. These covers slip over your existing shoes, concealing the laces while providing clawed toes at the front. Match the shoe cover fur to your leg warmers as closely as possible to keep the leg line continuous.

Wig, Ears, and Tail

Loona’s hair is voluminous, silvery-grey, and asymmetrical, swept heavily over one side of her face with darker undertones underneath. Starting with a Long Grey Wig, gently backcomb the crown sections with a teasing comb to build height at the roots. Mist with hairspray while teasing, then smooth the top layer over to hide the tangles underneath. The front bangs should sweep across one eye without completely blocking your vision.

The Black and White Wolf Ears Headband positions the canine ears right at the crown. Position the headband through the wig wefts so the band itself stays hidden under the synthetic hair, leaving only the fur-tufted ears exposed.

For the tail, attach the Black and White Fox Tail to the waistband of your shorts or a thin belt worn underneath your top. A safety pin through the tail’s base loop into the inner seam of the shorts provides a secure hold that keeps the tail centered without sagging.
